The simple truth
It takes ten seconds.
The mess lasts all day.
Dog waste gets stepped in, driven over and spread across pavements. It is unpleasant, unhygienic and completely avoidable. Responsible dog lovers already know this. We’re here to make responsible behaviour the norm.
Dogs are not the problem
Natural behaviour.
Human responsibility.
A dog does not understand municipal rules. A dog cannot carry a waste bag or choose where its waste should be disposed of. The person holding the leash does. Blaming or mistreating the animal completely misses the point. Loving dogs and expecting clean streets are not opposing ideas. Responsible owners care for their dogs, respect their neighbours and keep public spaces clean for everyone.

This was filmed on Maharshi Karve Road beside Oval Maidan, opposite the Bombay High Court—one of South Mumbai’s most prominent heritage precincts. Yet dog poop had been left on the footpath.
A prestigious address does not guarantee responsible behaviour. Clean streets depend on one simple habit: carry a bag and pick it up.

A simple how-to
The 10-Second
Pickup.
New to it? It is cleaner and easier than most people imagine. The pickup itself is just four simple moves.
Before you step out: Carry two bags—one to use and one spare in case the first tears or another dog owner needs one.
Pick up through the bag
Grasp the waste through the bag and lift it completely from the pavement.
Pull back and enclose
Use your free hand to pull the bag back over your hand and the waste, enclosing the mess inside.
Tie it and take it away
Knot it securely and carry it to a proper waste bin—or take it home for disposal.

We focus on recurring problem locations, independently verify what is happening and encourage the handler to do the right thing—calmly and safely.
Photograph & report
Take one clear photo or short video showing the dog, the handler and the poop being left behind. Send it by WhatsApp or email with the Google Maps location and the time this usually happens.
We verify it
A report is only a lead—not proof. Our volunteer visits the location and personally confirms the behaviour. If it happens again, the volunteer records the incident.
We ask politely
We offer the handler a bag and politely ask them to clean up. We also explain the applicable BMC rule. If they clearly refuse, we keep the recording as evidence and report the incident to the appropriate civic authority.

We photograph or videograph only the public incident, including an identifiable view of the handler when necessary to document what happened. We exclude children, unrelated bystanders, private homes and vehicle numbers. The purpose is not public shaming, but to document the behaviour, encourage compliance and, where necessary, report it to the appropriate civic authority.

If we get something wrong, we correct it quickly and transparently.

Your identity

Your name, phone number, email address and contact details will never be published or shared with the dog handler. We will not publish the photo or video you send. It is treated only as a lead for our volunteers to verify independently.
Your identifying information and submitted files are deleted within 90 days after the report is closed.
Civic participation
Is this legal?
Yes, citizens may observe and report suspected civic violations occurring in public places. BMC rules ↗ require pet owners to clean up litter left by their pets, and BMC accepts solid-waste complaints from citizens.
Our volunteers observe from a public place, politely ask the handler to clean up, offer them a free poop bag and, if necessary, report what they personally witnessed to the civic authority. They do not issue fines or act as police.
We do not trespass, threaten, follow or harass anyone. This is responsible civic participation.

Is this service free?
Yes. This is a voluntary, citizen-led service. We are Mumbai residents who care about how our shared public spaces are treated, so we contribute our time to encourage responsible behaviour and cleaner streets. There is no charge for sending a report or requesting a volunteer visit, and we do not collect money from either the reporter or the dog handler. Any official fine may be imposed and collected only by BMC.
Will my identity be kept private?
Yes. We will never reveal your identity, phone number, email address or contact details to the dog handler, the public or on social media. Access is limited to team members who need the information to arrange an independent visit. We delete your identifying details and submitted photo or video from our records within 90 days after the report is closed.
Will you publish the photograph or video I send?
No. We will never publish, circulate or post photographs or videos sent by reporters. They are used only to help us understand the location, usual timing and nature of the reported problem.
Will my photograph or video be treated as proof?
No. A submitted photograph or video could be false, incomplete, misleading or taken out of context. We treat it only as a lead. Our volunteer must personally witness the conduct in a public place before approaching or reporting anyone.
What happens after I send a report?
A volunteer visits the location around the usual time. If the volunteer personally sees the dog littering and the handler failing to clean up, the volunteer records the incident with their own camera, offers the handler a bag and politely asks them to clean up. If the handler clearly refuses, the incident may be reported to the appropriate civic authority.
Is leaving dog poop in a public place against BMC rules?
Yes. BMC rules make the pet owner responsible for cleaning litter left by their pet in a public place. Penalties may change, so you can check the current position on the official BMC website ↗.
Is this campaign anti-dog?
Not at all. We love dogs and are dog owners ourselves. Dogs are not responsible for understanding civic rules or carrying waste bags. That responsibility belongs to the person holding the leash. This campaign supports dogs, responsible ownership and cleaner public spaces.
